Some employers are now managing unprecedented numbers of job applicants in the wake of COVID-19, while quickly implementing new virtual hiring processes to comply with social distancing rules.

Industries that have significantly ramped up hiring include supermarkets, call centres, and health and aged care, Sova’s APAC MD Abigail Scott told Shortlist.

And Australian employers have kicked off their graduate recruitment campaigns, where despite major business and market disruptions, “there’s an overwhelming sense that organisations are continuing on forward”.

Employers learned the lesson during the global financial crisis that cutting back on graduate programs has a long-term impact, losing brand awareness that can take years to build back up, Abi continued.
